Since the Wright Flyer was sold to the U.S military in the early 20th century, the Aerospace industry has been an ever growing and innovative industry. However, as the industry grew and more companies began to manufacture components, there were no regulations which prompted the federal government to regulate the industry with the Air Commerce Act.
The Air Commerce Act created an entire new branch of the United States Department of Commerce dedicated solely to regulating the aerospace manufacturing industry. This branch was granted the power to license pilots, regulate the license process, as well as certify materials for use and aircrafts for flight. The ACA also created regulations for aerospace materials and components, these regulations were called Aerospace Material Specifications or AMS.
AMS 2482 Hardcoat PTFE anodize provides its substrate with the thickest layer of oxide of all the anodizing processes. It combines this increased hardness and strength with the unique lubricity of Teflon. The result is a self-lubricating component that is highly resistant to wear, abrasion, and corrosion.
At AOTCO, we offer a wide variety of military and aerospace specs for all our metal finishing processes. AMS 2482 is the aerospace material specification for Type III anodize, or Hardcoat Anodize, with Teflon Impregnation.
